Sharjah expo centre in talks to host new shows
Sharjah, May 4, 2014
Expo Centre Sharjah said it is in talks with DMG events, a specialist in business-to-business trade shows and conferences, to launch new shows and add niche components to its existing events.
The move is aimed at further opening up Expo Centre Sharjah's facilities to external event organisers in order to bring more events like The Big 5, Adipec and Index, to the emirate and boost occupancy at its halls, said a senior official.
"We are looking at tapping external event organisers which will help in bringing more trade shows and conferences to Sharjah. The move will also help improve occupancy at our halls, besides attracting more exhibitors & visitor traffic," remarked Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, the CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah.
"We are planning to target trade shows and conferences that do not clash with our calendar of events. DMG events organises some of the well-known shows in the country and across the world and will be a great partner,” said Al Midfa.
He was speaking after holding talks with Simon Mellor, the president of DMG events, who recently visited Expo Centre Sharjah and was impressed with its facilities, especially the new fifth hall that has added 10,000 sq m of space.
“We organise more than 20 trade and consumer shows on our own and we also play host to events organised by other government entities and private agencies. But the recent expansion we have undertaken has given us more flexibility in terms of space which can be better utilised by adding more components to existing shows and launching new events,” stated Al Midfa.
“Expo Centre and DMG will aim at launching new shows that will tap into the rich cultural & religious heritage of Sharjah. A cost-effective platform, the ease in connectivity that Sharjah offers and the large number of industrial establishments that operates out of the Emirate are some of the positive factors that will attract more events to Sharjah,” he added.
Expo Centre Sharjah (ECS), which was established nearly three-and-a-half decades ago as the first exhibition facility in the UAE, is the region’s leading trade exhibition venue and a geographic as well as financial landmark for the emirate and the country.
Over the years, apart from hosting and organizing some highly focused B2B and B2C shows, ECS has played a key role in prominently placing Sharjah as one of the top 10 business cities in the Gulf region and the UAE on the global exhibitions map.
