A new enhanced range of high performance plug valves manufactured by Arflu Valves, a leading Spanish company specialising in industrial valves, is helping meet the constantly increasing worldwide demand for fresh drinking water.

These valves, distributed by UK-based Trouvay & Cauvin, are an essential part of the process of reverse osmosis that is often used to desalinate seawater.

“Using only 100 per cent European sourced raw materials, Arflu valves have the significant advantage that all are manufactured in its own factory under the highest quality control and extensive test facilities,” said Jon Mason of Trouvay & Cauvin.

“The plug valves used in desalination have been designed specifically for this use.”

Reverse osmosis forces seawater through a membrane under considerable pressure allowing the pure drinking water through to the other side. In addition to the membrane, control valves are the most critical element.

Valve material selection, specification and proven performance are vital given the corrosive conditions.

“By understanding the pitting resistance equivalent number (PREN) of the materials, we can guarantee their suitability,” added Mason.

In addition to high-pressure plug valves, Trouvay & Cauvin offers a full range of valves for desalination. Each is designed to international standards with relevant material selection options including Duplex, Super Duplex and Incoloy, according to a statement.
