The 7th Bahrain International Garden Show will focus on the issue of food security and its implications for the future of the world.

Themed 'Seeds for Our Future' the show will be held from February 26 to 28.

The theme display will showcase a variety of productive trees and plants suitable for growing in Bahrain, and will display different types of productive gardens that can be created in homes regardless of available space for planting. The display will also include the latest technological methods for mass production of food as a means of facing future challenges.

Visitors will also learn Bahrain’s National strategy and future plans to ensure food security in the country.

“A major part of the food that is consumed here in the kingdom comes from abroad. Therefore it is of paramount importance for Bahrain to work towards achieving food security and to minimise reliance on imports,” said Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, head of the BIGS Organising Committee.

This year’s show has 75 exhibitors including pariticipants from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, the UAE, Syria, Egypt, France, Italy, Spain, South Africa and India,  in addition to a number of leading Bahraini companies. The aim is to increase the level of cooperation between local players and international industry leaders.

The 45th Annual Amateur Flower & Vegetable Competition is one of the main attractions of the upcoming show. It is organised annually by the Bahrain Garden Club and covers various areas including flower arranging, the open flower and vegetable competitions, experimental gardening, fruit and vegetable carving and photography contests.

Other attractions at the show include the Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa Prize for Pottery. The show will also host a number of lectures by renowned speakers.

The first issue of 'The Garden Journal' is also being launched at the show.-TradeArabia News Service
