Dreambox out of Orbit network

Manama, December 16, 2010

Orbit Showtime Network (OSN) has confirmed its programmes would no longer be available on Dreambox from Sunday.

It said an initiative to roll out a new platform with a secure conditional access system and deploying a new state-of-the-art series of satellite receivers had also put an end to piracy.

'We have been at the forefront of the fight against pay-TV piracy for the past decade in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena),' OSN chief executive officer David Butorac said.

'Securing this platform is part of our commitment to put a stop to piracy and add value to customers by expanding and strengthening our entertainment line-up.'

Our sister newspaper Gulf Daily News (GDN) had previously reported OSN programmes would no longer be available on Dreambox, after the new technology is introduced.

'OSN channels will cease to exist on Dreamboxes or similar boxes connected to the Internet from December 19,' Butorac said.

'This ongoing project has been supported by an on-air campaign to inform all those illegally watching OSN how to subscribe to OSN and receive the 75 channel line-up of premium entertainment.

'Securing the platform is a big achievement for OSN; it's the result of a lot of hard work and investment to entertain, educate and inform our customers through the best entertainment experience possible.

'We will continue to invest in content and innovation to provide an exclusive home to the most premium movies, series and sports in the Mena region.'-TradeArabia News Service
