UK water sector team to visit Bahrain

Manama, January 17, 2011

A trade mission from the UK will be in Bahrain on January 19 and 20 to promote and boost trade ties in the water sector between the two countries.

The visit is coordinated by UKTI, the arm of the UK Government supporting overseas trade, the British Water Trade Association, the British Embassy Bahrain and the Bahrain Economic Development Board.

Following a full programme of meetings, a mini-exhibition featuring all 11 companies comprising the mission will be held at the Crowne Plaza Convention Center on January 20.

The exhibition, organised by the Bahrain British Business Forum (BBBF), is open to all companies operating in the water and environment sectors, such as water installation companies, wholesalers and distributors of pipelines and safety products, contractors, sub-contractors and consultants.

In addition to the mini-exhibition, the event includes a networking dinner featuring a presentation delivered by guest speaker Fahmi Al Jowder, Minister of Electricity & Water Affairs, entitled “Securing Sustainable, High-Quality Water Services in the 21st Century”.

“Delegates on this Trade Mission represent some of the best UK companies and subsidiaries in the water sector and are recognised world leaders in their respective fields,” said Jamie Bowden, the British Ambassador to Bahrain. “The British government is keen to develop a close and lasting relationship with Bahrain in this field and support initiatives for high quality water and wastewater services at sustainable prices.”

During their two-day visit, the delegates are scheduled to meet with various ministries, regulatory bodies, and companies such as the Ministry of Works, the Electricity & Water Authority, and Hidd Power Company.
Khalid Zayani, chairman of the BBBF, welcomed all Bahraini companies in the water sector to attend the event.

The exhibition will begin at 6:30 in the evening followed by the dinner event at 7:30. Tickets cost BD15 per person.
