More than 150 international experts will promote green technolgies to investors, regulators and the public at a forum being held in Bahrain.

The first Bahrain Green Technology Expo aims to bring together experts and businessmen with the goal of highlighting the use of clean technologies.

The three-day event is being organised by the Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife and will be held under the patronage of its president Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

UN Industrial Development Organisation (Unido) has partnered with the commission as a co-organiser to bring international experts in green technologies to the event and promote it globally. It will conduct technical workshops and provide conference speakers, as well as promote the technologies to suppliers to exhibit in Bahrain and the region.

“The main goal of the exhibition is to bring financial institutions and investors and technologies together,” said Unido/Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) head Dr Hashim Hussein during a Press conference held at the Bait Al Tijjar in Sanabis yesterday.

“The region is eager and hungry to look into new investments and they are quite eager to get into new areas in clean technologies, including renewable energy, recycling and so on.

“Our role is how to bring the right technologies. It is an international challenge to bring people to invest in clean technologies and become lucrative.”

The conference and forum will focus on four main themes: renewable energies, water management, waste management and lifestyle technologies. It targets international producers of new green technologies, government bodies in Bahrain, business leaders, regulators, Shura Council and parliament, the public and researchers.

“The focus is to talk about green technologies and see how we can make the market aware of technologies that should protect the environment instead of misuse it,” said Public Commission director-general Dr Adel Al Zayani.

“Unido have experience in the green industry and they have experts with knowledge and experience in proven technologies and they will provide us with the right people and promote the event and invite the right technologies and companies and investments to exhibit in Bahrain.

“I think there is a drive now to have a more open market in terms of trade and conventions and obligations of trade between countries to be used all over the world.

“This is an opportunity for international investors to have a big market in Bahrain and the region.”

Event organising company Proact general manager Dr Khalid Bomtaia said the involvement of Unido was a great opportunity and would add to the success of the event. He also welcomed the support and participation of the British and Chinese Embassies who had expressed their keenness to partner with the organisers.

“The event will help to introduce the culture of protecting and saving the environment, as well as promote Bahrain, that Bahrain is back to normal and is ready to hold such international events,” he said.

The first Bahrain Green Technology Expo will be held from October 18 to 20 at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre.

Meanwhile, Dr Al Zayani said the Public Commission was working on a national strategy for green technologies and had plans to build its own green office building.-TradeArabia News Service
