Al Wasl, IMG ink marketing tie-up

Dubai, July 13, 2011

Dubai-based Al Wasl Football Company has signed a partnership with IMG Worldwide, a leading sports marketing firm, who will develop commercial relationships for Al Wasl with international and domestic brand partners.

This comes in the wake of major changes for Al Wasl Football Club, including improvements to the team, management and facilities, as it prepares to take its monumental step into the international arena of sports.

“Al Wasl is evolving and on the brink of worldwide attention; this started with strengthening the team and management,” said Zayed Abass, commercial director for Al Wasl Football.

“Next was improving facilities to accommodate for these changes, and now we want to make sure we have the right associates as we step out into the world.”

“Our vision is to create a strong and sustainable entity under the ‘Al Wasl’ name that will reel in important partnerships, make way for endorsements and ultimately open more doors for the company. We want to make sure we do all of this right, and IMG will be the perfect ally, for their vast experience and resources, and we are excited to start on the road to achievement,” he added.

Al Wasl, who has ambitious plans for significant growth in the near future, appointed IMG to lead the company on the right path to transform into a sustainable entity, not just focused on football, but that will diversify and take on different projects.

This includes setting a clear strategy for promoting the brand names of Al Wasl Football Company and Club on a regional and global level in addition to focusing on other sports, establishing more academies, and providing consultation services for different aspects related to the club.

Seth Holmes, director of consulting at IMG, said: “IMG are proud to partner with Al Wasl in this exciting period of the club’s development. Football is a significant area of IMG’s business worldwide and we are involved in many ground breaking ventures across the region, and Al Wasl’s evolution surely fits into that category.”

“We are already seeing significant commercial interest in the club and we expect this to increase as we approach the new season,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
