Saudi backs Bahrain’s fight against terror

Jeddah, July 9, 2012

Saudi Arabia will back Bahrain’s fight against terror and other illegal activities, said Saudi Interior Minister Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in Jeddah yesterday.

Bahrain’s Interior Minister Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa met his counterpart in a meeting last night, where he stressed that Bahrain wouldn’t forget his supporting stances reflecting the backing of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Shaikh Rashid hailed strong relations bonding the leaderships of both kingdoms and said they were witnessing continuous development in the era of King Abdullah and HM King Hamad; and highlighted their care for their citizens.

He also noted the role of the Saudi security in maintaining stability.

Shaikh Rashid confirmed that security co-operation was vital between both kingdoms to check those trying to disturb people’s lives. He briefed Prince Ahmed on Bahrain’s security situation and his ministry’s efforts to deal with incidents.

He said the leadership’s wisdom and citizens’ co-operation averted many crises in Bahrain.

Shaikh Rashid said the current security presence aimed to spread a sense of security and peace among people and deal with illegal activities. “Bahrain is a country of security and stability and all efforts will continue to keep it like that,” Shaikh Rashid added.

The Ministers also reviewed developments relating to the discovery of terrorist hideouts in Bahrain and seizure of explosives. They agreed that this amounted to an escalation of terror activities for which there was no excuse.

They said such crimes would not deter policemen from continuing to combat anything that might compromise national security and public safety. “This strengthens our determination to punish those who have betrayed and sold their nation and their conscience,” Shaikh Rashid said.

The ministers also discussed a project to set up new processing zones at King Fahad Causeway to cope with the increase in the number of travellers and vehicles.

This will be done through long-term plans that include increasing lanes for private cars, allocating more lanes and gates for buses and yards for customs inspection of trucks to facilitate smooth traffic.

The ministers stressed the importance of co-operation in fighting terrorism, crises and cyber crimes.

Prince Ahmed stressed that Bahrain’s security is part of Saudi security and highlighted the importance of immediate direct co-ordination between security authorities of both countries. – TradeArabia News Service
