3 Bahraini girls die in Madinah bus accident

Three Bahraini girls were killed and 51 other pilgrims injured when their bus overturned near Madinah yesterday as they were returning after performing Umrah.

Following directives from HRH Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, 40 of the injured passengers who were discharged from Saudi hospitals after treatment were accommodated in a hotel in Madinah; nine were admitted to a special care unit while a woman suffered a pelvic fracture, according to a report in our sister publication, the Gulf Daily News.

The Premier also directed authorities to dispatch a private plane and a qualified medical team to fly home the injured pilgrims.

Earlier, he directed Bahrain's embassy in Riyadh and consulate in Jeddah to follow up on the pilgrims' condition and instructed the Health Ministry to fly the injured to Bahrain for treatment.

He offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, wishing pilgrims safe return and the injured quick recovery.

Bahrain's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Shaikh Humood bin Abdulla Al Khalifa last night thanked the Premier and Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa for their directives, pointing out that the injured had been transported by helicopters to Al Hanakiya and King Fahad hospitals.
