Women investors pump $16bn into Saudi economy

The total volume of investments by women entrepreneurs in Saudi Arabia is estimated at more than SR60 billion ($16 billion), nearing 21 per cent of the overall private sector investments, said a report.

Of this, the share of the investment by women in the contracting sector stood at 14.8 per cent of total commercial registers for women in Madinah region, reported the Arab News, citing a senior busiesswoman.

 Iman Fallatah, the deputy head of businesswomen committee at Madinah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was addressing the Madinah Investment Forum (MIF) held recently, said the report

In Madinah, the contracting sector was the hot favourite of women investors (14.8 per cent of total women businesses), followed by foodstuffs at 11 per cent, fast-food sector at 10.5 per cent, workshops 9.1 per cent, and dress-making shops 8.1 percent, the report said citing Fallatah.

Saudi businesswomen, stated Fallatah, contributed a whopping SR100 billion in savings, or 75 per cent of total bank savings across the kingdom.
