Body found stuffed in suitcase in Bahrain

Manama, August 4, 2014

A body found stuffed in a suitcase in Bahrain is believed to have been rotting away for more than a month in the scorching summer heat.

The decomposed body of an unidentified man was discovered at Al Louzy housing project in Hamad Town by a passer-by yesterday (August 3) morning, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

He alerted police after sensing a foul stench emanating from one of the under construction buildings.
An investigation has been launched to find out the circumstances surrounding the death, said the Interior Ministry.

Sources told the GDN the Criminal Investigation Directorate along with Public Prosecution officials have collected evidence from the scene.

"The suitcase was lying there for over a month and no one saw it as it's a new housing project, which is still under construction," they said.

"The case is with the CID now who launched an investigation to find the cause of death."

The body has been taken to Salmaniya Medical Complex's morgue, where an autopsy will be performed.

"The body is in a bad condition and it is hard to identify it," said well-placed sources.

"We cannot even stand near the body as it is very smelly, and we have to wear surgical masks and cover our body before going near it.

"An autopsy will be done to find out the cause of death."

Reports claimed the man was of Indian origin, though officials were unable to confirm.

It was the second time a man was found murdered and stuffed in a suitcase.

The GDN had reported that Bangladeshi Taher Antaz, 31, was tied up, gagged and hanged from a ceiling fan at an apartment in Ras Ruman last April.

He was allegedly lured into a trap with the promise of sex with a prostitute and his body was stuffed inside a suitcase before being dumped in a rubbish bin.

Two men, also Bangladeshi, have been charged with premeditated murder.

A third Bangladeshi suspect, who allegedly knew about the crime but failed to report it to police, has been charged with staying illegally in Bahrain.

One of the defendants earlier admitted to prosecutors that they killed the victim in a row over their earnings from prostitution. - TradeArabia News Service
