4 injured in apartment fire in Abu Dhabi

Four people, including one firefighter, were injured in a fire that broke out in the bunk beds of an apartment in a 17-storey building in Abu Dhabi.

The Abu Dhabi Police and the Civil Defense extinguished the fire, said a statement.

Colonel Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, from the General Directorate of Civil Defense in Abu Dhabi, explained that the Operation Room received a call about the fire at 1 pm on Thursday (August 7).

“Immediately after the call was received, firefighting and ambulance teams, along with one of the Air Wing Department’s helicopters, were dispatched to the location in order to evacuate trapped individuals and ensure their safety,” he said.

Th firefighters from Al Madina, Al Falah and Al Bateen fire stations managed to extinguish and control the fire within 10 minutes, said Colonel Al Zaabi.

“Traffic patrols and ambulance vehicles rushed to the scene of the fire, and the firefighting teams managed to stop the spread of fire and evacuated the building as a precautionary measure. Traffic patrols, ambulance teams and crime scene experts also rushed to the scene; investigation regarding the circumstances of the incident is still ongoing. Captain Mahmoud Karam Khouri, from the Al Madina fire station supervised the operations,” he said.

He also called on all concerned parties to ensure the provision and implementation of prevention and safety standards in all facilities and buildings. - TradeArabia News Service
