Sharp launches car air purifier

Dubai, June 7, 2010

Sharp Middle East launched a unique air purifier product for cars that is equipped with its own ion technology that helps improve air quality by removing harmful airborne viruses, cigarette and pet odor and allergen.

The new product is the latest in a range of products launched by Sharp that are equipped with the new plasmacluster technology, in which positive and negative ions are released into the air simultaneously.

These positive and negative ions are the same ions found in abundance in nature such as forest, mountains, and fields, and which recreates the natural process that purifies the air in the earth’s atmosphere.

The car air purifier, which fits neatly into a car cup holder, is designed to release high-density of plasmacluster ions that follows the car’s interior airflow.

Plasmacluster ions remove influenza virus, cigarette and pet odor inside a car. It can be charged by a cigarette lighter, and is available in the UAE for Dh999 ($272).

“Our mission is to contribute to the well-being of society, by providing products with Plasmacluster ion technology which can help improve air quality in homes and, now in vehicles,” said Fumio Yamaguchi, managing director of Sharp Middle East.

“Especially in this region, many people are suffering from allergies and asthma due to poor indoor air quality. We believe that our Plasmacluster ion technology, which has been proven effective against mite allergens (the major trigger of allergic asthma), will be one of the best solutions for them. The car air purifier will also contribute towards a healthy driving experience,” he added.

Sharp worked closely with academic research organisations around the world including Retroscreen Virology, a world authority in virology, in developing and assessing the benefits of the plasmacluster ion technology, a statement said.

It has successfully demonstrated that plasmacluster ion technology can reduce the activity of 29 different harmful airborne microbes including the H1N1 influenza virus, it added.

Manu Mahdi, general manager of Sharp Middle East, said: “Sharp’s plasmacluster ion technology is a one-of-a-kind technology in which the positive and negative ions generated are the same kind of ions which leave users feeling like they are breathing forest fresh air even when inside or in indoor spaces.”

“The technology has been developed in line with international safety standards, making it an ideal solution for home users and motorists.”

Sharp has a wide range of air purifiers suitable for rooms ranging from 20 to 48 sq m, as well as high density plasmacluster ion generators for household and commercial applications. – TradeArabia News Service
