Bahrain Grand Prix 'to go ahead as planned'

London, April 12, 2012

The Bahrain Grand Prix will go ahead on April 22, Formula One teams will be told in Shanghai on Saturday, UK's Guardian newspaper has reported.

Jean Todt, the president of the sport's governing body, the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), will address the dozen team principals and use Bahrain government and police information, as well as statements from various embassies, to argue that the situation has improved, said a report in our sister publication the Gulf Daily News.

F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone will speak to the teams and attempt to reassure them, as well as reminding them of their contractual commitments.

A centrepiece of Todt's evidence is a letter he received from Interior Ministry adviser John Yates who describes recent reports of the situation in Bahrain as 'distorted' and 'inaccurate'.

Meanwhile, the FIA confirmed yesterday that 'not one team' has made an official approach asking for the race to be called off, or at least postponed.
