Bahrain F1 on track for 2013

London, September 29, 2012

Bahrain’s Formula One Grand Prix will be held on April 21, the fourth in next year’s 20-race championship calendar, according to the governing International AutomobileFederation (FIA).

Bahrain has hosted several motorsport events since the grand prix went to the top of the news agenda last April, with a round of the FIA world endurance championship being held at the Sakhir circuit this weekend.

Backed by the Bahrain Economic Development Board, the motor-racing extravaganza is the first of its kind spectacle that is being hosted by  Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), and is the sixth of eight rounds in this year's FIA World Endurance Championship.

Entertainment packed with a wide range of activities for all age groups made the crowd even bigger yesterday for Six Hours of Bahrain weekend at BIC.

Scores of families turned up for the off-the-track entertainment zone located next to the BIC paddock with a team of roaming performers interacting with visitors.

The Six Hours of Bahrain features a spectacular field of more than 30 race cars, including legendary names such as Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus and Chevrolet.

The non-racing event featured a string of activities for children who enjoyed an airplane train, jumping castle and merry-go-round.

The (FIA) said yesterday Bahrain's race would be the fourth round of the 20-race championship on April 21.

The season will start in Australia on March 17 and end in Brazil on November 24. Six pairs of races, all long-haul destinations from Europe, will be on back-to-back weekends.-Reuters and TradeArabia News Service
