IPTC to focus on future of energy

Dubai, November 29, 2007

One of the world’s foremost technical conferences for the energy industry - the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) – will be held in Dubai.

The event, to be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from December 4 to 6, will combine the strengths of the world’s four largest representative bodies of exploration and production professionals – The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG).

UAE vice-president, prime minister and Ruler of Dubai Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum will be the patron of the event. It is set to be one of the most substantial gatherings of the energy industry in the region’s history.

“This year’s event - subtitled ‘A Changing World: Interdependence, Innovation and Implementation’ - confronts head-on the major strategic challenges facing our industry. IPTC will provide an important platform for knowledge exchange and skills development, supporting our efforts and investments in developing people and technology across the region,” said vice-president, Baker Hughes, Business Development - Middle East & Asia Pacific, Adham Alkady.

The conference will examine critical issues including exploration, environmental issues and solutions to the challenge of energy constraints.

Executive committee co-chairpersons, Farouk Al Zanki, chairman and managing director, Kuwait Oil Co, and Tony Hayward, group CEO, BP, will speak at the event.

The opening session of IPTC will include addresses from Al Zanki and Hayward, as well as dignitaries from the UAE, Kuwait and Oman.

With more than 300 presentations covering a diverse range of subjects, including production, midstream gas, and health and safety in the oil industry, the conference is positioned to drive forward discussion about the contemporary and future needs of the energy industry.

IPTC will also feature an extensive exhibition showcasing products and services for the region and the world.- TradeArabia News Service
