Bahrain bid to avert power cuts

Bahrain has stepped up efforts to avert power cuts across the kingdom with the Cabinet meeting urging speedy repairs to electrical faults.

The meeting, chaired by Deputy Premier Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, gave instructions to maintain sub-generators and ground cables properly and ensure power is restored swiftly. The measures aim at averting inconvenience to citizens, particularly duringRamadan's high temperatures.

Works Minister in charge of Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) Fahmi Al Jowder was instructed to submit an exhaustive report, detailing EWA proposals to tackle power cuts and avert potential recurrence.

In another development, the government yesterday allocated BD280 million ($742.6 million) for a domestic solid waste management project.

Under the 20-year scheme, BD14 million will be allocated annually as part of efforts to deal with solid domestic waste efficiently, using hi-tech equipment in line with global norms.

Municipalities and Agriculture Ministry was instructed to conduct a feasibility study featuring alternatives to boost municipal resources. - TradeArabia News Service
