ABB clinches Kuwait transformer order

Zurich , November 8, 2010

ABB said it has won an order worth $24 million from the Ministry of Electricity and Water in Kuwait to supply over 700 dry-type transformers to the country’s national power and water utility.

A leading power and automation technology group, ABB said the order was booked in the third quarter.

The contract scope includes dry-type transformers rated at 1000 kilovolts ampere (kVA),1250 kVA and 1600 kVA, as well as the provision of spare parts. The delivery and installation of the transformers will be completed in 2011.

“ABB’s dry-type transformers are designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions like the high summer temperatures they will face in Kuwait,” said Markus Heimbach, head of ABB’s global transformers business.

“When installed, the transformers will help improve grid efficiency and reliability whilst adding further capacity to the network.”

Transformers are integral components of any electrical grid and are a critical element in the efficient and safe conversion of energy across diverse voltage systems.

ABB’s transformer portfolio includes power transformers rated up to 1000 kV, dry- and liquid-distribution transformers, as well as related services and components, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
