Shell showcases aviation fuels, lubricants

Dubai, November 17, 2013

Shell Aviation is showcasing its latest innovations in aviation fuels and lubricants at the Dubai Airshow, which started today (November 17).

The airshow, being held at Dubai World Central, has brought together regional and global aviation experts, from the private and public sectors, under this year’s theme “The World is Coming.”

“In the past year we have continued to witness the growth of the aviation industry in the region.  According to Iata, the Middle East is expected to experience an average growth of 6.6 per cent in air passenger travel by 2016 and a 4.9 per cent growth in international air freight demand,” said Xavier Hery, general manager.

“In the UAE in particular the aviation sector has contributed $22 billion, or 28 per cent to the GDP according to leading global research firm Oxford Economics. Governments in the region are continuing to take a long-term approach to this sector with allocation of large investments towards the development of new and existing airport mega projects,” he said.

Partnering with governments in the region, Shell Aviation is supporting the fuel needs of the Middle East’s leading airlines, said a statement.

As regional demand for aviation services increases, Shell has a dedicated team of aviation scientists at a specialist aviation research facility in the US and spends more than $1.3 billion annually in R&D across its businesses, it said.

Visitors to the stand will also have the opportunity to test their skills at taking off and landing a place with a flight simulator, it added. - TradeArabia News Service
