Sony launches new SmartWear

Las Vegas, January 7, 2014

Sony Mobile Communications today announced a series of new products and innovations that according to the company sets the stage for a transformative year in 2014.

“Last year we made a breakthrough in bringing consumers the best of Sony in our premium products,” said Kunimasa Suzuki, president and CEO of Sony Mobile. “These demonstrate our commitment to excellence in Sony’s unique user experience. Our thirst for innovation and desire to challenge conventional boundaries will deliver groundbreaking products that truly enhance consumers’ lifestyles.”

At CES, the global consumer electronics and consumer technology tradeshow that is currently taking place in Las Vegas, Sony underlined its commitment to the rapidly evolving wearable technology market.

In addition to smartphones, Sony is outlining its new SmartWear Experience vision – an upcoming range of SmartWear products, with Xperia smartphones, and a new Lifelog application.

Standing for flexibility, the first product in the range is “SmartBand”. It offers life empowerment by logging daily activities and representing them visually in Sony’s Lifelog application. Not only that, it will collect photos taken, music enjoyed, games played and social activities. Users can reminisce at the past, make the best of the present and plan for the future.

Core is the intelligence at the heart of SmartWear Experience vision, an independent module that can be personalised and worn flexibly in a number of different styles such as in the pocket or as a necklace,  Sony said.

Lifelog is a unique application that will be compatible with any smartphone running Android 4.3 and above. It collects your physical, social and entertainment activities and displays them as a visual representation of your past, present and future. You can see how active you were, what pictures you took; where and when, how you have been interacting with your world during the day – and use this to make more informed decisions looking forward, it said.

And, with open software and hardware, Sony is forging new in-market partnerships, to offer consumers more choice. Further details will follow in the coming weeks, it said.

Core is a 24/7 wearable module that’s fully waterproof (rated IP58), despite its exposed microUSB port. This is Sony Mobile’s first product classified as “waterproof” without a microUSB port lid; it’s representative of Sony’s commitment to no-compromise usage and durable innovation, said the statement.

Sony is already a category leader in wearable technology, with the recently launched SmartWatch 2, a sleek and capable companion device that works with Android smartphones from all manufacturers, already selling beyond expectations, it said. – TradeArabia News Service
