Kingfisher may launch Bahrain flights

Manama, April 27, 2009

Kingfisher Airlines could one day be operating in Bahrain, said United Breweries Group chairman Dr Vijay Mallya in Manama.

Mallya, who is also the owner and team principal of Formula One team Force India, was with his motor racing outfit at the Grand Prix on Sunday, during which he said he held a meeting with Gulf Air chief executive Bjorn Naf and spoke about the possibility of future investments in the region.

"I was chatting with my friend, the CEO of Gulf Air today, and we were generally discussing the economic environment, which is very challenging," Mallya told the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

"So, if there is enough economic justification, we'll try to fly to Bahrain. Otherwise, we'll fly when the economy gets better."

Kingfisher Airlines, based in Bangalore, is owned by UB Group. It has a network of 77 destinations, including a few international routes to London Heathrow Airport and to Colombo. Mallya added that, in the region, he is also looking to Dubai as a possible destination.-TradeArabia News Service
