Initiating the development of Bahrain’s airport and enhancing its value to shareholders, clients, tenants and passengers will be the main priority for the new chief executive officer of Bahrain Airport Company.

'I am very honoured to be given this opportunity, knowing full well the significance of the role and I am relishing the challenge of galvanising the airport,' Gordon Dewar said.

'I have met my executive team and I am pleased to see that we all share a common focus and goal,” he added.

Dewar is the former managing director of Edinburgh Airport.

He will lead a team of experienced and qualified employees responsible for managing the operations at Bahrain International Airport and overseeing its development and expansion project.

Dewar has vital experience in airport expansion and capacity building having successfully launched a GBP40 million ($63.8 million) terminal extension at Edinburgh Airport as part of a GBP300 million investment plan he has drawn up.

He boasts over 20 years of experience in the transport industry, holding a number of senior management positions with leading transport operators, including commercial, general management and business development roles.

'We are confident that Mr Dewar has all the right credentials and the relevant experience, especially in managing airport operations and expansions,' Bahrain Airport Company chairman Kamal Ahmed said.

'I trust he will develop on the achievements that have been made and call on his extensive experience to lead the work that will realise our vision of a global aviation hub,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
