Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) in Jordan has reported a 14.8 per cent rise in passenger traffic to 1.6 million in the third quarter of 2010, compared with the same period in 2009.

In September, QAIA recorded a 26.6 per cent rise in traffic to 512,000 passengers compared with 405,000 during the same month of 2009.

QAIA recorded the highest Q3 traffic volume in July, with around 600,000 passengers, while in August the airport recorded 521,000 passengers.

Aircraft movement in July and August was 6,134 and 5,795 respectively, while in September it rose 9.7 per cent to 5,501 compared with the same period in 2009.

Cargo traffic rose 16.3 per cent to 7,065 tonnes in September, while in August it registered the highest in the third quarter with 8,513 tonnes.

QAIA is currently undergoing a $750 million rehabilitation and expansion project, including the construction of a new 100,000 sqm passenger terminal.-TradeArabia News Service
