Tetra Recart crosses 10 year milestone

Dubai, February 28, 2012

Leading food processing and packaging solutions company, Tetra Pak, has announced that its Tetra Recart package has crossed a major milestone of 10 years in production with over 100 brands in 40 markets.

The company said that a decade after launch, the Recart packaging solution is still considered to be fresh and innovative by retailers and food producers, who need solutions that are easy to use, reduce costs, energise sales and minimise environmental impact.

The Tetra Recart is the first truly innovative, retortable carton package which enabled filled product to be sterilised within the package, the statement said.

A direct competitor to cans and jars, Tetra Recart can be filled with shelf-stable food products containing particles of almost any size – including vegetables, tomatoes, ready meals, soups and sauces, as well as pet food.

It was made possible by Tetra Pak’s invention of a unique packaging material and a new forming and sealing technique. Its rectangular shape and low package weight brings direct cost savings to manufacturers and retailers while reducing environmental impact and conveying a fresh, natural product image to consumers.

The package is made mainly of wood fibre – a natural and renewable raw material. The cardboard fibre used in it comes from forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

The Tetra Recart package weighs 64 per cent less than a can, the company said.

Jan Juul Larsen, managing director at Tetra Pak Arabia, said: “Tetra Recart has been well received in the Arabian peninsula since it was first introduced in 2006. Saudi Arabia’s Al Rabie has been in the forefront having launched a full range of vegetable and tomato paste products for consumption across the Kingdom using Tetra Recart.”

“Ten years on and more than 100 brands in 40 markets around the world are using Tetra Recart to achieve sales in mature product categories and revitalise existing product ranges. Leading brands are choosing it as an environmentally responsible, strong, easy-to-stack and eye-catching alternative to meet consumer demands for safety, convenience and environmental performance in the 21st century,” he said.
