Gulf Air unveils historic cabin crew uniforms

Bahrain’s national carrier Gulf Air showcased a series of the airline’s historic cabin crew uniforms at the three-day Bahrain International Airshow 2014.

The airline had homegrown and French haute couture fashions dating from the 1950s on display. Gulf Air cabin crew members toured the Airshow grounds and greeted visitors in an assortment of uniforms spanning the different eras.

The uniforms on display included some of the airline’s first outfit designs of the 1950s and 1960s in addition to the airline’s 1970s uniform which features the carrier’s revolutionary introduction of trousers to the female cabin crew attire and, most importantly, the adaptation of the Middle Eastern headscarf in chiffon flowing from a central pillow box cap, which remains a trademark of the Gulf Air uniform to date.

The 1990s House of Balenciaga uniforms ofpredominantly light grey and salmon pink colors for the female crew were also showcased alongside Gulf Air’s Balmainuniform of 2000 and the adapted current design.

“Gulf Air’s pioneering role in the regional aviation industry is reflected in our uniforms and it’s an honor to be a part of the Gulf Air uniform showcase at the Bahrain International Airshow 2014," remarked Gulf Air Flight attendant Mariam Tareq Jasim Abdulrahman Tulefat.

"We are giving visitors a glimpse into the fashion of the decades since the 1950s and showing how Gulf Air was and continues to move with the times in the outfitting of its front line staff," said the proud Bahraini.-TradeArabia News Service
