Bahrain vows backing for aviation industry

Manama, February 10, 2014

The Cabinet has agreed to provide more facilities and incentives to support the aviation industry in Bahrain.

It also decided to encourage more international airlines to operate through Bahrain International Airport, stressing its role as a pivotal and key airport in the region, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

The incentives include exempting macro and micro rates, granting discounts to increase landing fees on some international companies, and renewal of discounts granted to other companies.

The Transportation Minister briefed the Cabinet on the actions that will be taken in this regard.

The Cabinet also approved a draft law on information and communication, and referred it to the legislature for constitutional and legal procedures.

The bill enforces no penalties on journalists or individuals working in the field of information and communication. It provides for lack of accountability of the press on what is issued as opinion or correct information in good faith and does not force those working in the media to disclose their sources of information unless it is hidden by a direct threat to public order.

The Cabinet approved a draft law on Partnerships Investment Company Limited. The bill introduces a new kind of legal entity – a partnership.

This law regulates financial activities authorised in partnerships and guides the creation of a partnership agreement, registration, limitation, and responsibility within partnerships.

The Cabinet decided to refer the memorandum filed in this regard by the Transportation Minister to the Ministerial Committee for Legal Affairs.

The Cabinet also approved proposals to expedite the issuance of certificates and equivalent qualifications by the Board of Higher Education, Cabinet secretary-general Dr Yaser bin Essa Al Naser said in a statement. - TradeArabia News Service
