Etihad says majority of stranded passengers sent home

Abu Dhabi, March 8, 2014

UAE national airline Etihad Airways has reported that the majority of passengers stranded in Abu Dhabi following the failure on Thursday of an airport landing system have now been accommodated on alternative flights.

The airline said it continues to reschedule some long haul flights to ensure that passengers flying via Abu Dhabi this evening (March 8), and in coming days, can connect with onward services to their final destinations.

The Abu Dhabi carrier pointed out that over the last 48 hours, the priority had been to enable passengers to continue their journeys as quickly as possible. This has resulted in several hundred bags being misconnected.

Etihad Airways said it continues to do everything possible to ensure all misconnected baggage at Abu Dhabi International Airport are returned to passengers in the coming 36 hours.

The airline continues to work around the clock to restore normal scheduled services and ensure that all affected passengers and their bags reach their final destination, said Etihad in its statement.

Passengers can  visit the Etihad Airways website or contact the Etihad Airways Contact Centre on +971 (0) 2599 0000 for more information on the status of flights in and out of Abu Dhabi Airport.

Etihad has drafted hundreds of extra staff across its network to assist passengers whose travel plans were impacted due to the failure of the airport’s runway landing systems, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
