BBK opens new branch in India's capital

MANAMA, December 1, 2014

Bahrain of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK) has opened its fourth branch in India and continues to infuse capital into the country, the bank's top officials have said.

BBK's fourth Indian branch, in the capital New Delhi, was inaugurated by chairman Murad Ali Murad in the presence of board members, chief executive Abdul Karim Bucheery, the bank's India head Mallikarjun Kota and other key officials, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

Murad said that the bank expects to continue developing its business in India on the back of growth in India-Bahrain bilateral trade with two-way non-oil trade reaching $1.268 billion in 2012-13.

By growing its India operations, BBK was looking to act as a "bridge" between the GCC and India, assisting non-resident Indian (NRIs) to do business in the Gulf states and supporting Gulf investors in India, he added.

"The new branch and continuing investment have enhanced the bank's ability to serve with greater depth, a broader spectrum of clientele in India," Bucheery said.

"We see an ever-growing opportunity to take part in this mutually beneficial inter-country partnership," he added.

"Our NRI services based in Bahrain, Kuwait and Dubai have played a critical role in serving the NRI community in the Gulf, estimated at 5.5 million, while also facilitating foreign currency remittances and investments in India by NRIs."

BBK's presence in India dates back to 1985 with the opening of its first branch in Mumbai, followed by a second in Hyderabad.

Last year, the bank launched its third branch in the country, in Kochi. - TradeArabia News Service
