Alfanar wins Saudi substation contract

Riyadh, November 28, 2010

Saudi Electricity Company has awarded a SR396 million ($105 million) contract to Alfanar Construction to build a 380kV substation at Al-Jouf and also expand the existing 380kV Hail substation.

Alfanar is the contracting arm of Alfanar Group of companies, which also has business interests in electrical manufacturing and building systems.

The project, which forms part of SEC’s plan to increase the reliability and security of supply to Ar’ar and Al-Jouf network, will be completed in 25 months, said a statement from Alfanar.

The project is aimed at increasing the capacity of electricity to meet the growing demand and also the future needs in the Hail region, said Ali Saleh Al-Barrak, CEO of Saudi Electricity Company and Sabah Al-Mutlaq, vice chairman of Alfanar Group after signing the contract.

The duo inked the pact in the presence of Abdullah Al-Hamad, construction division manager of Alfanar Group.

The project will link the regions of Al-Jouf on the northern border to the main network of the rest of the Kingdom, thus increasing the reliability of service in these areas, they added.

According to Al-Mutlaq, Alfanar is currently executing SR5 billion ($1.3 billion) worth of electrical projects across the Kingdom for different governmental agencies.-TradeArabia News Service
