Riyadh, April 10, 2014

Saudi Arabia has shortlisted 10 consortiums to bid for the first phase of the multi-billion dollar Makkah metro project, reports said.

Makkah's Prince Mashaal bin Abdullah has approved the list which includes national and international companies, an Emirates 24/7 report citing local newspapers said.

The first phase of the project involves the construction of two 45-km rail lines and 22 train stations and it includes two separate contracts.

Bids are expected from the shortlisted firms in early July, an official was quoted as saying.

The Makkah Metro project includes four lines with a total length of 114 km and 62 stations.
