ABB wins key Saudi power contract
Zurich, July 2, 2014
ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, said it has won a $78 million contract from Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) to supply transformers for its two new combined-cycle power plants.
These projects are aimed at boosting transmission capacity around the capital, Riyadh, and surrounding areas of the Central Region. The order was booked in the second quarter of this year, said the company in a statement.
As per the deal, ABB will deliver generator step-up (GSU) transformers, power transformers and station service transformers for SEC’s combined-cycle power plants.
Commenting on the win, Bernhard Jucker, the head of ABB’s Power Products division, said: "These transformers will enable more electricity to reach consumers and meet growing industrial and household demand in the region."
“We are pleased to continue supporting Saudi Arabia in the development of its power infrastructure,” he added.-TradeArabia News Service
