Aqaba port ... exports boost.

Jordan ports firm inks deal for expansion of Aqaba pier

AMMAN, February 2, 2015

Jordan Industrial Ports Company has signed an agreement with two Spanish companies in a move to expand the industrial pier at the southern port of Aqaba, a report said.

The Spanish consortium will work to re-qualify and expand the industrial pier owned by the Arab Potash Company and the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC), added the Jordan Times report, which cited a company statement.

After the expansion, the pier capacity will be doubled and it will be able to receive larger ships carrying up to 100,000 tonnes, JPMC chairman Amer Majali was quoted as saying in the report.

With this, JPMC will be able to export its DAP (diammonium phosphate) fertiliser, potash and phosphorus pentoxide and also import needed raw materials, he added, noting that the works will take 22 months.
