RAK FTZ’s new warehouses ... plugged into FEWA’s power grid

RAK FTZ links 100 new warehouses to Fewa

RAS AL KHAIMAH, August 10, 2015

Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone (RAK FTZ) has recently connected the newly constructed 100 warehouses to the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa), enhancing the quality of its infrastructure.

“It gives me a great pleasure to announce that RAK FTZ’s new warehouses in Technology Park has been successfully plugged into FEWA’s power grid. We have been able to energise each warehouse ahead of the actual occupancy by clients,” said Eyad Ismail, RAK FTZ’s engineering manager.

“This Dh10 million project underscores our persistence in improving the efficiency of our infrastructure and significantly reducing the costs of running a successful business in RAK FTZ.”

In order to directly acquire power from FEWA, RAK FTZ Engineers designed a rugged electrical infrastructure that features 11kV cables and substations, which are at par not only with FEWA’s regulations but also with the international electrical standards. This added 5.4 megawatts to the Technology Park’s power production capacity.

“We understand that a permanent power supply is a crucial growth factor for businesses. Power failures cause businesses to a standstill, which means they can be losing profits by the minute,” Ismail explained.

“We took the initiative to connect the new warehouses to FEWA in order to provide a secure and sustainable supply of power, at subsidised government prices. This helps our clients avoid any spends and losses due to power blackouts triggered by diesel-powered facilities.”

The rapidly growing client portfolio of RAK FTZ, together with robust growth of Ras Al Khaimah’s (RAK’s) trading and manufacturing industries, has substantially amplified the demand for reliable warehousing facilities. In fact, prior to the launch of the 100 new warehouses, 33 per cent has already been booked. – TradeArabia News Service
