GCC must equip roads and open spaces wth channels.

GCC 'needs proper drainage system' to tackle flooding

DUBAI, October 20, 2015

With the climate change bringing in frequent showers with large amounts of precipitation across the globe, the GCC, too like others must be ready with proper drainage system to tackle flooding problems, said an expert.

There is a need for proper drainage system across the GCC despite the fact that rainfall in the region is among the lowest in the world, remarked Johann Groult, the general manager of Birco, a leading developer of innovative drainage solutions.

A major player in the distribution of drainage channels and solutions for building projects, Birco will be taking part in The Big 5, a leading building and construction show to be held next month in Dubai, UAE.

"While rain is less frequent in the Middle East now, we must ensure that roads and open spaces are equipped with high-capacity channels and large water reservoirs in anticipation of further changes in our climate," said Groult.

He pointed out that the long-term cost of not having drainage installed will become increasingly apparent as the region’s construction continues to experience strong growth.

"Flooding caused by rainfall in the Middle East should not be dismissed because it only rains a few times here annually," he added.

Birco became the first German company to produce concrete channels covered with mesh grating in 1965. It received the first order for its contemporary drainage systems in the Gulf region in 2013, and has been serving heavy-duty, landscaping, environment, and other projects.-TradeArabia News Service
