The design of the new tower will be a combination of Islamic and modern architecture.

Emaar to develop new iconic tower at Dubai Creek

DUBAI, February 7, 2016

Dubai developer Emaar is set to start work on a new tower combining Islamic and modern architecture on the shores of the Dubai Creek following the approval of its engineering design by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said a report.

The new building, which will be an observation tower, will be linked to the central island district of Dubai Creek Harbour with a vibrant 4.5-km-long creek boardwalk offering an array of retail, dining, leisure and entertainment choices on the Dubai Creek, according to the state news agency Wam.

The work on the tower will begin over the next few weeks and its height will be announced later, it said.

The Dubai ruler, who was accompanied by Emaar chairman Mohammad Ali Al Abbar and Dubai Holding  chief executive Fadel Al Ali, visited an exhibition at Burj Khalifa in which six global engineering consultancy companies were competing for the new tower’s design, stated the report.

After reviewing all the engineering designs, Sheikh Mohammed approved the work of renowned Spanish designer Santiago Calatrava Valls, who is also credited with works including the World Trade Centre Transportation Hub in New York, Chicago Spire Tower, Calgary Peace Bridge and the Olympic Sports Complex in Athens, it said.

The new design will reflect Islamic architecture and the UAE’s rich culture and heritage, stated the report.

Dubai's ruler lauded the idea of the yet-to-be-named tower and its building at one of the most important historical sites, which is expected to be a major tourist destination once complete.

Describing the tower as a unique architectural masterpiece on par with Burj Khalifa and Eiffel Tower, Sheikh Mohammed said the new design will reflect Islamic architecture and the UAE’s rich culture and heritage.

Alabbar, thanked the Dubai ruler for his continuous support and confidence in Emaar’s projects, which, he stated, will propel the company towards more success and boost the national economy, as well as contribute to developing smart cites.

The new tower is designed to become a monument and cultural and tourist landmark at Dubai creek, combining Islamic architecture and modern design, stated the Wam report citing Alabbar.

It will be unique in its design to stand as an iconic building that reflect cultural diversity, it added.
