Bahrain plans revamp of traditional market

MANAMA, March 29, 2016

The iconic traditional market in the heart of Manama, Bahrain, is set to undergo a major facelift by the end of the year, said a report.

The scheme was approved during a meeting which brought together Bahrain Authority for Tourism and Exhibitions (Bate) acting chief executive officer Shaikh Khalid bin Humood Al Khalifa and the team in charge of the Old Manama Suq Development project, reported BNA.

Urban and old suqs development expert Hank Dittmar staged a presentation on plans to revamp Manama Suq and turn it into a trade hub and tourism destination without losing its urban identity, it stated.

Shaikh Khalid said that a comprehensive plan had been endorsed to develop the old Manama Suq in cooperation with the private sector, represented by the (BCCI) Old Suqs Development Committee and other concerned parties.
