MANAMA, October 8, 2016

Bahrain officials have announced the completion of the work related to the paving of dirt roads in Block 1038 in Sadad (Road 3813) and Block 1026 in Karzakan, in addition to constructing Road 2631 and a parking lot at the Northern Governorate.

The BD465,291 ($1.22 million) project was awarded to Gulf Horizon International Trading Establishment, said a statement from the Ministry of Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning.

This comes as part of the Dirt Roads Programme being implemented by the government in co-ordination with the municipal councils and the Capital General Secretariat, according to the ministry.

It is part of the government’s programme to improve infrastructure in the kingdom by giving priority to the paving of dirt roads in urban areas and creating an integrated roads network in all areas across the kingdom, said the statement.

The project, which has been included within the government’s work plan for 2015-2016, aims to serve 170 residential units in both villages, alleviate traffic congestion, increase traffic safety levels and create 45 parking spaces, observed Sayyed Bader Alawi, the roads projects and maintenance director at the ministry.

The scope of work involved paving of 4.9-km-long roads and civil works besides implementing ground channels for present and future use, a storm water drainage network and installation of a new lighting network, painting works and signage, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
