Qatar completes $107m road work

DOHA, October 24, 2016

Qatar's Public Works Authority (Ashghal) said it has completed the first two phases of Rawdat Rashed Road Development Project, aimed at providing a vital and safe link between Salwa Road and Dukhan Highway, at a cost of QR390 million ($107 million).

The work, which included the construction of a 20.5-km-long road consisting of three lanes in each direction, started in the first quarter of 2015 as part of its Local Roads and Drainage Programme.

Both these phases were completed under the supervision of consultants Aecom Middle East, said the statement from Ashghal.

Alcat Contracting Company implemented Phase One of the project at a cost of QR182 million ($50 million) covering road stretches from Salwa Road for a distance of about 8.5 km towards the north where it intersects with the main roundabout that connects the southern side of Rawdat Rashid Village.

The QR208-million ($57 million) Phase Two, which covered a distance of 12 km bypassing Rawdat Rashed Village besides eight intersections (roundabouts), was done by Bin Omran Trading & Contracting Company.

The first two phases are part of the main projects to develop Rawdat Rashed Road, which has been divided into five different phases to facilitate the implementation of works and minimise the impact of construction works on the area’s residents and visitors, said the statement from Ashghal.

Work will soon start on the third phase, which runs 13 km northbound to the intersection between Lebsayyer Road and Dukhan Highway followed by the fourth and fifth phases which will help improve the connection between Rawdat Rashed Road and existing bridges on Salwa and Dukhan highways, it added.

In another development, Ashghal recently opened the Izghawa Interchange and a key bridge linking Al Huwaila road to the North Road.

Developed as part of North Road Corridor Enhancement Project, the interchange is seen as a key connection in a populated area since it consists of three graded levels, ranging from a single to four lanes in each direction besides a light signal.

The new junction will make alternative access roads available from Lusail City to Izghawa area into Al Shamal Road, supposed to be the main route to commercial projects there.-TradeArabia News Service
