Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) has completed about 61 per cent of the work on the Dh678 million ($185 million) upgraded road network and interchange project at Abu Dhabi International Airport, according to a report.

The project will connect the new terminal of the airport to the Abu Dhabi-Shahama (E10) highway, and will provide a direct access to and from the terminal towards Abu Dhabi as well as Dubai and Al Ain cities, said the state news agency Wam, citing a top Musanada official.

It involves the construction of the interchange to Abu Dhabi International Airport through four bridges serving as entry and exit points to the terminal, the construction of an underpass leading to Yas Island, and an overpass connecting Yas Island and Airport City A.

Under the project, the E10 road will become broader from four to five lanes in both directions, and the Presidential Flight road from two to three lanes in both directions.

Hamad Khalifa Al Murar, the acting chief executive of Musanada, said the project is one of the critical land transport projects currently being executed by Musanada to achieve the objectives of Abu Dhabi Plan.

Al Murar pointed out that the company is actively implementing the business plan as per the agreed schedule.

Phase One of the project has been successfully completed whereby Interchange A2 has opened for traffic recently, in light of full compliance with highest international standards which include preservation of resources and the environment.

The scope of works includes widening of the (E10) road from the existing four lanes to five on both directions to a total length of 8km and the construction of a secondary 3.7-km-long three-lane road network between Interchange No.6 and (E12) road that will connect the Yas Island underpass to the (E10) road, he explained.

In addition, the road between (E10) and the presidential flight building will be widened from two lanes to dual three lanes in both directions in addition to the construction of a bridge that will serve the presidential flight and Masdar City, according to Wam report.

A storm water pumping station with the associated storm water drainage network will also be constructed to serve the E12/E10 interchange together with a road lighting network and intersections with traffic lights, it added.
