Thumbay Group plans Dubai hospital expansion

DUBAI, March 9, 2017

Thumbay Hospital – Dubai, a leading academic hospital of Ajman-based Gulf Medical University, has announced major expansion plans for 2017-18, which will see significant enhancement of its facilities and infrastructure, in addition to the setting up of centers of excellence in different medical specialties.

This comes in-line with UAE’s Vision 2021 to bring world-class healthcare infrastructure, expertise and services across the country to fulfil citizens' growing needs and expectations, said a statement from UAE-based Thumbay Group.

The plan was formally unveiled at Thumbay Hospital on Thursday (March 9) by Humaid Al Qutami, the chairman of the board and director-general of Dubai Health Authority, in the presence of Thumbay Moideen (group founder president), Akbar Moideen Thumbay (VP for healthcare division), and other senior officials.

The event also witnessed the launch of Ortho Spine, a new centre of excellence for spine and orthopedics at the hospital, which was inaugurated by the chief guest.

Unveiling the expansion plans, Moideen said it will add 100 more beds to the hospital, in addition to 45 new clinics and five new centres of excellence once the project gets completed in 2018.

‘Ortho Spine’ inaugurated today is the first in the series; the others centers will be featuring Diabetes, Mother & Child care, Heart Center and Cosmo Curve."

The newly opened Ortho Spine center will offer expert care in the following areas: Total Joints Replacement and Revision, Arthroscopic Surgery, Sports Related Injuries, Pediatric Orthopedics, Orthopedic Fractures and Trauma (Adult & Children) and Spinal Surgeries. Equipped with trained surgeons, who specialize in orthopedics and spine procedures, the specialized center also offers outpatient services. Orthopedic services including surgical procedures are provided 24 x 7 throughout the year.

Moideen said in the coming future, the dental hospital in Dubai will offer free treatment to patients as part of its academic plan.

Thumbay said the Ortho Spine center has expert physicians specializing in the diagnosis and management of spinal disorders- ranging from a simple back sprain to complicated deformities or spine tumors. Our expert surgeons have many years of experience administering procedures for the treatment of various spinal disorders.

“We are confident that Ortho Spine will make world-class spine care more accessible for patients in the UAE,” he added.

Elaborating on its future plans, Moideen said: "We are pursuing an ambitious global expansion plan, as per which the Thumbay academic hospital network will have a total of 1,000 beds in the UAE, 1,500 beds in India and 750 beds elsewhere in the Gulf and Africa by 2022, thus taking the total number of hospitals to 15 worldwide."

Thumbay Group’s healthcare division is developing Thumbay Hospital Ajman into a center of excellence in Obstetrics & Gynecology, IVF & Fetal Medicine and Cardiac Sciences, he stated.
