KBW Investments' firm wins Romania project deal

DUBAI, March 16, 2017

Arcadia Engineering, a company chaired by Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal's Dubai-based KBW Investments, said it has been appointed as general designer for Business Garden Bucharest, one of the largest office developments in the Romanian capital, by contractor Porr Construct.

A Leed Platinum pre-certified development, Business Garden comprised of three 10-storey buildings: the mid-rise buildings, GLA Building A at 22,042 sq. m., Building B at 10,880 sq. m. and Building C at 10,486 sq. m., are Class A office and retail space on a gross built up area of 84,000 sq m.

The project, by developer Vastint Romania, is scheduled for completion in 2018, said a statement from Arcadia Engineering.

As general designer, Arcadia’s responsibilities include full execution of design and detailing, as well as constructability compliance and legal permit compliance.

Included in Arcadia’s scope of work is managing the full coordination between architectural, structural and MEP disciplines, thereby ensuring the project plans are cohesive with an aligned buildable project schema, it stated.

"To best execute the requirements of Business Garden Bucharest, BIM modelling has been employed to guarantee design coordination, and to prevent potential project conflicts and interdisciplinary mismatch," remarked Florin Nistor, founding partner, Arcadia Engineering.

"As a company, we began integrating BIM modelling three years ago, as it allows us to foresee potential misalignments in building design thereby preventing the revisions process and subsequent delays and budget issues they may lead to," noted Nistor.

"BIM is a cost, quality and timesaver, and we employ BIM across all projects requiring complex planning," he added.

With the infrastructure works at 50 per cent completion, the project is progressing as per schedule, said the statement from Arcadia Engineering.

Designed by West Group Architecture, Business Garden Bucharest will be surrounded by green recreation areas, and is situated in the Central-Western Bucharest business district.

“Our design role in the Business Garden development is expected to conclude in Q3 2017, but as part of our client-servicing Arcadia’s team will remain onsite for the duration of the project. We will continue to support Porr with any technical assistance that might be required, and to ensure commissioning of the buildings from a design perspective as required,” he added.

Business Garden Bucharest is Vastint Romania’s second major development in the country, following Timpuri Noi Square mixed-use project, with 100,000 sq m of class A office and retail as well as 50,000 sq m residential space planned.-TradeArabia News Service
