IHG breaks ground on first sustainable hotel in UAE

DUBAI, November 15, 2017

InterContinental Hotels Group, one of the world’s leading hotel companies has joined hands with UAE-based Diamond Developers to break ground on the first sustainable hotel in the UAE - Hotel Indigo Dubai Sustainable City.

Located in Dubai’s first sustainable integrated development, the 143-rooms hotel will be a net zero energy building, where 100 per cent of its energy needs will be met by solar power.

The architecture and interior design across the hotel will incorporate sustainability principles at every step of the guest journey and hotel operations, said a statement from IHG.

Offering the best-in-class dining options to the guests, Hotel Indigo Dubai Sustainable City will have a neighbourhood café and a specialty restaurant. Both café and the restaurant will be supplied with fresh produce from urban farming facilities that will be merged to hotel grounds and Sustainable City Bio Domes.

The hotel will also offer unique indoor and outdoor event venues that are integrated into luscious landscape of the orchard and urban farms.

Furthermore, the guests will be able enjoy various wellness and leisure facilities such as a fully-equipped gymnasium, an outdoor pool inspired by cascading natural pools, an outdoor yoga deck within the Orchard as well as two treatment rooms with private terraces that extend into the landscape.

Pascal Gauvin, the chief operating officer, India, Middle East & Africa, IHG, said: "Hotel Indigo Dubai Sustainable City is set to be the most coveted boutique property in the emirate, that will showcase design elements and guests’ experiences inspired from its sustainable, eco-friendly neighbourhood."

"Positioning us as the industry pioneers, this will be a landmark hotel from our portfolio within the region. Upon completion, we look forward to welcoming our guests to this exclusive property, that reflects the changing tastes of the discerning travellers who not only seek unique local experiences but are also sensitive to their own carbon footprint and believe in greater environmental stewardship," stated Gauvin.

On the new venture, Diamond Developer CEO Faris Saeed said: “We have created a living, breathing, sustainable community that is cost-effective and eco-friendly for over 300 families, and after proving that the concept is feasible and successful, we look forward to commencing Phase Two of The Sustainable City, with Hotel Indigo representing the first of four buildings that we are adding."

"This hotel will open the door for visitors and tourists to enjoy the exhilarating experience of living in harmony with nature and significantly minimising their carbon footprint," he stated.

"On completion, Hotel Indigo Dubai Sustainable City will be an ideal choice for travellers visiting Dubai for business, leisure or to attend Dubai Expo 2020, which will be just a 10-minute drive away from the boutique hotel," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
