Dubai nine-month non oil exports up 43pc

Dubai, January 3, 2012

Dubai's non-oil exports jumped 43 per cent in the first nine months of 2011 compared to the same period of the previous year, data released by Dubai Customs showed on Tuesday.

Dubai Customs said the emirate's non-oil imports witnessed a 21 per cent increase in 2011 when compared to the previous year.

Dubai accounts for around 76 per cent of the UAE non-oil trade, while Abu Dhabi accounts for almost all of the oil production of the world's No. 4 crude exporter.

Analysts polled by Reuters in December expected the UAE current account surplus to shrink to 8 per cent of gross domestic product in 2012 from an estimated 10.4 per cent in 2011.-Reuters
