Sun holds seminars for Beirut students

Beirut, December 6, 2008

Sun Microsystems conducted seminars this week for students in four universities across Beirut including Notre Dame University, Beirut Arab University, Lebanese American University and the University of Balamand.

The series of seminars conducted between December 1 and 4, gave students the opportunity to learn more about Sun and their role in the Open Source community, Sun's programs for universities and students and the certification programs which encourage students to get certified around Sun technology for that competitive edge when entering the workforce.

“Sun's industry accredited certifications give students a huge competitive advantage as they prepare to begin careers in the highly competitive IT field,” said Ottmar Kugelmann, chief learning officer (Southern and Eastern Emea).

In collaboration with their Authorised Education Partner, ACT Knowledge Center, Sun’s message for students was “Give your career a boost today” by learning more about the advantages of Sun certifications and other educational program initiatives across Lebanon including the Sun Academic Initiative, the Open Source University Meetup, and the Sun Developer Network.

“We will extend the offering for students to increase their skills around Open Source concepts and Sun technology,” said Ghassan El Haj, business development manager for Sun Learning Services, Middle East and North Africa.

“Sun is a key player in Open Source, which is important for university students because it helps facilitate innovation, increase flexibility, and drive collaboration in the IT community. The Sun Open Source University Meetup (Osum) provides an excellent platform for students to share, get involved and collaborate” added Kugelmann.-TradeArabia News Service
