Bahrain aviation academy wins key approvals

Manama, October 26, 2010

Gulf Aviation Academy (GAA), Bahrain’s first aviation training college, has won major approvals and accreditations from Bahrain Civil Aviation Affairs (BCAA) and United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority to conduct training courses.

The academy has won approval to operate as a Type Rating Training Organisation (TRTO) for conducting training programmes required by pilots to operate different aircraft types, said a statement from GAA. It has also been approved as a TRTO.

With this recognition, the academy can provide simulator training and type rating courses on Airbus A320 and A330/A340, multi-crew co-operation courses (MCC) and the training of cabin crew at their training facilities at Bahrain International Airport, it added.

Captain AbdulRahman Al Gaoud, undersecretary for BCAA said the Gulf Aviation Academy's training facilities and systems were comparable to other world class facilities.

'We had pride in certifying the academy as a TRTO and BCAA will closely work together with GAA to promote the facility and position Bahrain as a centre of excellence for aviation training in the region,' Al Gaoud noted.

According to him, the academy was also awarded BCAA as well as Civil Aviation Authority International (CAAi) Initial Safety Training (Cabin Crew) Organisation Accreditation for training cabin crew.

It is the first training academy outside Europe to receive such accreditation from the UK- based CAAi, a wholly owned subsidiary of the UK Civil Aviation Authority, Al Gaoud pointed out.

With the highly-accredited and recognised international TRTO standards, GAA now provides simulator training and type rating courses on Airbus A320 and A330/A340 aircraft, Multi-Crew Cooperation courses (MCC) and the training of cabin crew at their training facilities at Bahrain International Airport, he added.

In addition to these, GAA was recently awarded the highly-accredited and internationally recognized Bahrain Civil Aviation Affairs - BCAA  ANTR Part-147, to provide Aircraft Engineering Type training, and conduct exams as per global aviation standards.

On the achievement, GAA chief executive officer, Tim Shattock, said, 'We are very pleased to receive these key approvals, which further positions the academy as the leading provider of quality aviation training in the Mena region.'

'With the forecasted growth in the aviation sector in the Middle East over the coming years and the increased demand for aviation training, these approvals and accreditations are key for our rapidly growing customer base,' Shattock stated.

'GAA is very focused on continuing to add and develop a further range of specialist aviation training services to our portfolio throughout 2011,' he added.-TradeArabia News Service
