Alba to start summer training programme

Manama, July 2, 2011

Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) will launch its annual summer training programme for high school graduates, university students as well as Bahrain Training Institute trainees starting from tomorrow (July 3).

The Alba Annual Summer Training Programme is a key corporate social responsibility initiative geared towards investing in the next generation of Bahrain’s workforce, said a statement from Alba.

The programme aims to broaden opportunities for young Bahrainis in acquiring new skills, in expanding their knowledge base and in gaining practical work experience.

The programme targets high school graduates, university students and Bahrain Training Institute trainees, and provides them with the opportunity to work in Alba for the duration of four weeks during their summer break.

Commenting on the launch, Alba’s chief executive, Laurent Schmitt said: 'As a key corporate social responsibility initiative aimed at investing in Bahrain’s future generation, the programme enables young Bahraini students to enhance their professional skills and thereby increase their employability.'

'It combines a healthy mix of theory and practice so the students are able to understand the fundamental principles behind many of the projects they’ll be involved in,' he remarked.

As part of the programme, the young students will be working in the following department: accounting, carbon, cast house, environment, internal audit and marketing.

They will also receive training in business ethics and enterprise in action, environmental issues and safety, interview skills, and CV writing. At the end of the programme, they are expected to prepare a report on their journey during the training period.

'We are convinced that the students will be able to transform their summer holidays into a productive experience whose impact will hopefully last a lifetime,' said Schmitt.

'While we would be delighted if these students consider the aluminium industry as a career option, it would be our hope and desire that they succeed in whatever industry they join and become a source of pride for everyone in Bahrain,” he added.-TradeArabia News Service
