Jewellery design course launched in Bahrain

International Gemological Institute (IGI), one of the world's largest independent laboratories for testing and grading gemstones and fine jewellery, has launched a jewellery design course in Bahrain.

The two-week jewellery designing programme is being launched by IG’s School of Gemology in association with the Directorate of Precious Metals & Gemstone Testing in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Bahrain.

IGI School of Gemology offers a range of programmes focused on various facets of diamond grading and jewellery designing.

The current programme offered in Bahrain will highlight jewellery designing techniques, practical factors of jewellery designing on how the creative designs can be converted into actual wearable jewellery and basic details about diamonds and coloured stones.

This exclusive training programme is a practical approach towards professional jewellery designing and by the end of the course, the students will be able to create their own jewellery designs.

Ali Mohammad Safar, director of Directorate of Precious Metals & Gemstone Testing, said: 'The jewellery industry experiences a strong demand for fashionable, creative and unique jewellery designs.”

“The gems and jewellery industry in Bahrain has seen steady growth over the last few years and we are delighted to provide the most professional and comprehensive educational programme in jewellery design in association with IGI to meet the needs of the industry and also to help enhance the skills of anyone interested in jewellery design.'

In order to pursue the course there are no practical pre-requisites. The programme will take place from May 12 to 24h at the premises of the Directorate of Precious Metals & Gemstone Testing in the Ministry at Diplomatic area, Manama.

A maximum of 15 students are accepted per class.

“Students are shown how to illustrate and handcraft jewellery designs which will help them to create their own portfolio with the help of our professional coaches. The course enables them to start on a career in jewellery design with established companies, set up their own business or just learn out of interest.”

All students will receive a fully equipped design kit and complete lab manual which will help aid professional designing. On successful completion of the course, they will be awarded the internationally recognized Diploma in Professional Jewellery Design issued by IGI, Belgium.
