Effat University opens architecture, design college

JEDDAH, December 31, 2014

Effat University has opened a new college for architecture and design after receiving accreditation from the Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Higher Education.

The university prides in being a pioneering institute for women's education in the kingdom and believed its new college would help provide the needed caliber of architects, designers, producers, and animators, said a statement.

The college also aims to improve the urban design industry locally and regionally.

The college offers bachelor's degrees in architecture, design and visual and digital production and a master's in urban design.

All streams of study in the college are delivered in affiliation with international colleges and universities including Duke University, Pratt Institute School of Architecture, University of Southern California and Miami University.

The academic programme for architecture is not only accredited by the ministry but also by American education authorities, allowing its students to apply for graduate studies abroad.

The programme will prepare students for the vocational field of architecture by including an internship that will enable graduates of the field to gain experience and work in both the private and public sectors.

The college's visual and digital production department is considered a pioneer for women's education in the kingdom.

It is the first to train women on multimedia and prepare students to become scriptwriters for multimedia, radio and magazines; animators; and video games developers.

The design department focuses on environmental design, interior design and product design.

The masters in urban design will qualify graduates to work on private and public architectural projects using advanced techniques.

The programme extends to the architecture and design of urban roads, small landscapes, skyscrapers and other urban features.

The programme will also expose its students to environmental, social and economic theories concerning urban landscapes. - TradeArabia News Service
