Novartis sets high-rise endurance test

Dubai, February 25, 2008

Novartis Consumer Health (NCH) will organise the 'Dynamisan High Rise Stair Climb' in Dubai as part of its drive to boost endurance and fitness among the UAE residents.

The climb, to be held in iconic tall buildings, will kick off on February 29 at the A W Rostamani 21st Century Tower in Dubai.

The event will feature participants scaling 55 floors to test both endurance and fitness. The climb will then be rolled out throughout the GCC countries over the coming months, said a NCH official.

Novartis, which manufactures Dynamisan, a multivitamin, launched the campaign to raise awareness of the sedentary nature of people's lifestyles and the need for more exercise, said Samah ElManzalawy, Dynamisan Brand Manager from NCH.

With the increasing incidence of lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases being recorded in the UAE, this climb aims to showcase the benefits of taking the stairs and getting more physical exercise to combat obesity and to help ensure a healthy lifestyle, he noted.

“We all work long hours and tend to neglect our health, especially with regards to exercise. We are often too tired to exercise, even though it will give us an energy boost," MAnzalawy added.

Stair climbing is an effective cardiovascular workout and burns twice as many calories as other sporting activities, 15 minutes of stair climbing producing the same results as 30 minutes of running.

Climbing up the first 20 flights will be aerobic, after which the climb will intensify becoming an intense anaerobic workout.

"When performed correctly it can be a total body workout, especially building muscle mass and increased cardiovascular endurance in the Lower Body," pointed out physical advantage head trainer, Corey Oliver.

"The climb will provide enthusiasts with a new approach to measure their fitness level. It is a unique challenge, and I would highly recommend participation," he added.

The event, supported by Jeema Mineral Water, will give participants a chance to walk away with exciting prizes sponsored by Fitworx, the exclusive distributor of LifeFitness equipment, Physical Advantage and Giordano.

The initiative will start at 9am and is open to public. For taking part, one can register by emailing HowDynamicAreYou@gmail.com, or at the venue prior to the start of the climb.-TradeArabia News Service
