200 paediatric experts to gather at Dubai congress

DUBAI, November 10, 2015

More than 200 paediatric experts from different countries are set to gather at the first International Paediatric Medical Congress in Dubai, UAE.
 
The congress, which will include experts from Ministry of Health, Dubai Health Authority, and Health Authority Abu Dhabi, as well as major healthcare institutions, will  take place on November 12 and 13 at the Dusit Thani Dubai.
 
The key challenges facing paediatricians today, which includes management of infectious diseases in children as well as common neurological disorders, will be covered in this conference.
 
Dr Ifthikar Jan, consultant and head of Paediatric Surgery from Zayed Military Hospital in UAE will be discussing updates on the management of hydronephrosis in children. 
 
“Acquiring new technology especially minimally invasive techniques is important for all departments practicing pediatric urology. However, the most important area to improve outcome of surgery shall be organizing operative workshops and courses to improve the quality of MIS techniques for renal problems,” said Dr Jan.
 
He also added that the most important aspect of his presentation during the congress will be to review the condition from the surgeons’ perspective and to share the new advances in the care of paediatric patients with hydronephrosis.
 
Another topic that will be discussed in the congress will be the management of acute respiratory infection (ARI) in children. 
 
Dr Bhandri Srinivas, specialist paediatrician and head of paediatric department at NMC Hospital, UAE, said: “ARI is the leading cause of child mortality and morbidity in developing countries and in developed countries. It is responsible for 3.9 million deaths worldwide, and out of that, 90 per cent of the deaths in ARI is due to bacterial pneumonias. Our challenge in the management of ARI is early detection of pneumonia, and how to prevent the morbidity and mortality.”
 
Aside from the conference, the congress will also feature post-congress workshops that would focus on various topics such as diagnosis and management of jaundice, managing children with neurological disorders, diagnosis of children with nasal and sinus diseases using endoscopy, and infection control in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
 
Dr Abdulla Ibrahim, consultant ENT surgeon from Al Qassimi Hospital in UAE, who will be presenting a workshop on paediatric endoscopy, shared that the skills needed by physicians to acquire in diagnosis of children with nasal and sinus diseases is easy. 
 
“Through my workshop, I hope to imprint the diagnosis on to the physician’s mind and also stimulate curiosity whereby they can adopt these practices, learn new skills, and help them become better physicians,” Dr Ibrahim added. - TradeArabia News Service
